Draft Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2023-2029

The eight councils in the Wellington Region welcome your feedback on the draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2023-2029. The plan sets a vision, objectives, targets, and regional and local action plans for achieving efficient and effective waste management and minimisation across the Wellington region over the next six years.

We are consulting on this draft plan up until 5pm, 1 September 2023. Feedback from our community will help in shaping its final form before it is agreed by the eight councils in the Wellington Region later this year.

The three Wairarapa District Councils are working together to take a Wairarapa regional approach to this consultation.

Wairarapa Local Action Plan

The three Wairarapa District Councils have a joint regional Wairarapa Local Action Plan. It proposes 22 actions to help us achieve the vision and objectives in the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2023-2029, while ensuring that they meet the needs and concerns of our communities in Wairarapa.

Please tell us in the Wairarapa Local Action Plan section of our submission form whether you support these proposed local actions; if there are other local actions we need to consider; and which local actions need to be done first.

Speaking to your submission

For those wanting to formally present their views to the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Joint Committee, a Hearing will be held on Monday, 18 September 2023 at Wellington City Council.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to travel to Wellington to speak in person, you can come along to one of the following Council venues to present your feedback online:

• Waihinga Centre, Texas Street, Martinborough
• Carterton Events Centre, 50 Holloway Street, Carterton
• Waiata House, 27 Lincoln Road, Masterton

Note: You will need to indicate on your submission form that you would like to participate in the Hearing.
