About Our Action Plan
Porirua City is a fantastic place, full of residents who care deeply about protecting our beautiful city and making it the best it can be.
Addressing our city's waste is one step we can take to protect the environment and restore the mauri of our natural area.
The vision of the WMMP is, ‘Working together to minimise waste - for people, environment, and economy'.
This vision seeks to foster a collaborative approach to the way resources are managed and minimised in the Wellington region. It will guide the system change needed for the entire region, with a focus on transforming how waste is generated, managed, and minimised.
We’re proposing a range of actions for Porirua City. Here’s a quick list of some of the actions we think are really important for making our city even better - so tell us what you think:
Building relationships and connections across our business sector and communities to increase learning and drive commitment in waste reduction.
Developing a network of facilities to reuse, repurpose, recycle, and compost goods and materials, this includes construction and demolition waste, organic waste and household goods and material. It also includes providing services such as repair cafes to help the community repair their items.
Improving our kerbside service to be low emissions, accessible and equitable.
Providing and implementing an organic collection and a processing service to divert organic waste for our city.
